The Starfish Story

A wise man was taking a sunrise walk on the beach...

In the distance he caught sight of a little girl who seemed to be dancing along the waves. As he got closer, he saw the little girl picking up starfish from the sand and tossing them gently back into the ocean.

“What are you doing?” the wise man asked?

“The sun is coming up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them in, they’ll die.”

“But little girl, there are miles and miles of beach with starfish all along the way, you can’t possibly make a difference.”

The little girl bent down, picked up another starfish and threw it lovingly back into the ocean past the breaking waves, “It made a difference to that one.” She replied.

15. A Success Program for Students

A Success Program for Students

Each day in America 2,700 kids dropout of high school. Lifetime earnings depend upon education and a high school diploma is the first step. In giving scholarships most are given to the best and the brightest. We need to reach out to the average student with some programs to help them develop skills, or to enter vocational training.

Possible Programs

  1. Help a student get a trade or skill scholarship, for example, nurses’ aide, cooking, truck driver, hairdresser, etc.
  2. A focused one-on-one program with potential dropout students to encourage them to stay in school.
  3. Publish and distribute information on the importance of a high school diploma in life.
  4. Develop a specific vocational skill program for drop-out students.
